Leisure

Leisure and activities in Isny in Allgäu and surroundings

A camping holiday in the heart of the Allgäu region

Waldbad Camping Isny is in a tranquil, central location, embedded in the wonderful Allgäu landscape. We are a central starting point for hikes, bike rides and lots of cultural attractions in summer.

In winter there is a fantastic trail network for cross-country skiing and the nearest alpine ski-lift is just a stone’s throw away.

There is a wonderful view of the peaks of the Allgäu Alps only a few minutes’ walk away from the campsite. A hike through the “EISTOBEL”, with its ancient ravine and waterfalls is spectacular in winter, but just as captivating in summer.

The Allgäu mountains are not far away and fantastic high-altitude hikes and mountain excursions start practically on the doorstep. The open-air pools and spa waters in Oberstaufen, Sonthofen, Bad Waldsee and Bad Wurzach are extremely popular tourist destinations not far away from us.

Further information at the reception

At the reception you can get maps for bike and cross-country skiing tours, and info material about various attractions and excursions in Allgäu or around Lake Constance. Learn more on this page or simply talk to us to find out which are the best destinations.

“Felderholzweiher” bathing lake

Our bathing lake is fun for the whole family

Felderholzweiher bathing lake, which reaches temperatures of up to 23°C, is only a few metres away from the campsite, and as the shore is flat, it is very popular with our camping guests. The lake is just the right place for rest and relaxation, especially in summer, to cool down after sunbathing.

Round the lake there are well-tended sunbathing areas, in sun or shade. Both the lake and a Kneipp well for arm and footbaths well are fed by fresh spring water.

Swimming and paddling

The water at the edge of the lake is shallow, so young and old are quickly tempted into it. It provides perfect conditions for bathing, swimming or just splashing around.

The quality of the water in the lake is excellent and samples of it are constantly monitored by the health authorities. There is also a shower directly on the shore.

Zone for non-swimmers and water games

We have set up an enclosed paddling zone specially for children on the shore. Here, the little ones can burn off their energy while you keep an eye on them from the sunbathing area.

If you are a non-swimmer, you can use this area to cool off or paddle too, in a safe, enjoyable environment, alone or with the whole family.

Children’s lakeside playground

We have an extensive range of entertaining playground features for younger guests: sandpit, table-tennis table, swings, climbing frame, see-saw and sandpit digger sandpit. There is something here for every child to be able to play to their hearts’ content.

The playground is easy to keep an eye on and also has shady areas for relaxation. Adjoining the playground there is a badminton court that can also be used for all sorts of other ball games.

In and around the campsite

Adventure playground – outdoor recreation for the family

Only 2 minutes’ walk away from the campsite there is a grassy area for families, with an adventure playground. Here, children and adults alike can be really active. The area has a beach volleyball court, swings, sandpits, a cowboy fort and various other playground features.

The adults can have a family barbecue on one of the open-air barbecues or on the large covered barbecue. There are tables and benches to make it easy to find a comfortable spot. An on-site toilet is also available.

Hiking & walking

Our campsite is surrounded by lots of hiking trails and forest paths in the heart of the Allgäu landscape. This means that they are easily accessible, only a few minutes away from the campsite and the view of the Allgäu peaks.

Here you can walk, hike, ramble or, of course, cycle. Just ask us about what possibilities there are close to the campsite.

Tennis courts

Opposite the family recreational area are the sand courts belonging to the Isny Tennis Club. To play tennis there, all you need to do is phone the groundsman and make a booking.

A short walk round the lake

A short walk round the lake or nearby woods during the daytime or in the evening always makes a pleasant change.

You can go for short excursions in the Allgäu countryside, following the marked trails near the campsite. There are benches where you can stop for a rest.

Felderhalde – a mountain with a view and a ski-lift

The closest and highest mountain in Isny in Allgäu is only 500 m away from the campsite and can be reached by a forest path. Going up Felderhalde is a short excursion with a wonderful panorama view of the rooftops of Isny and the surrounding Allgäu area. In the winter months, winter sports-lovers can test their prowess with toboggans, snowboards or alpine skis at the Felderhalde ski-lift. For further information: www.skilift-isny.de.

Cross-country ski stadium

The Isny in Allgäu cross-country ski stadium is about 150 metres away from the campsite. A snowy training trail goes past the campsite and in the winter months it is illuminated in the evening. Events and contests are often held here on one of the 3.75 km long routes. The whole trail network covers about 70 – 80km.

Isny in Allgäu and its surroundings

Isny’s attractive historical town centre

The town of Isny – was built in a mediaeval oval shape, with town walls, gates and towers, and was first mentioned in a document in the 11th century. As a “free imperial city”, Isny started to flourish from the 14th century. The palace and church, town hall, the Hallgebäude building and patricians’ houses all bear witness to the historical activity of religious orders, aristocracy and burghers, artisans and und merchants.

Isny presents unadulterated nature, with distinctive hills, lush meadows, forests and field, making it the perfect location for a holiday the whole year round: bike tours, hiking, skating or swimming in summer and cross-country skiing, tobogganing, ice-skating or just enjoying the clear air in winter. Our campsite has a central location and is only 1.3 km away from Isny. It is an ideal starting point for trips to the Allgäu Alpine foothills, or to world-famous destinations such as Schloss Neuschwanstein, Lake Constance, Oberallgäu or nearby Switzerland.

Culture and sightseeing

The historical town centre of Isny in Allgäu with its picturesque pedestrian zone invites you to visit the burghers’ houses, mediaeval towers, historical town hall, Nikolai church, Upper Swabian Baroque Route and more.

Hiking in Isny or Argenbühl

Hikers in Isny or Argenbühl, go along narrow streets and paths, field and forest trails, through historical landscapes. Farm buildings amongst meadows and pastures bear witness to a time when the farms were built far from the town centre for better agricultural management.

Villages with chapels and churches attest to the deep roots existing between people and their region. Large marketplaces and richly-decorated palaces in the middle of the villages show the relationship between the peasants of the time and their masters.
